Minor couple commits suicide when parents oppose relationship

Sullia, November 17, 2011 : A minor couple in Altetti, Sullia allegedly committed suicide following parental disapproval of their relationship.

The deceased are Praveen (19) of Morangallu Colony in Aletti and Chandravathi (14) of Gunadka. Reportedly, Praveen was deeply in love with Chandravathi, who was also related to him.

When their parents opposed the match a few days ago, the two eloped. They spent some days in Kasargod and returned to Morangallu on Tuesday. Praveen kept Chandravathi in a deserted house, but they ran away again on Tuesday when Praveen mother, who found out that her son had kept Chandravathi in a deserted house, reprimanded them. 

On Wednesday, the couple’s parents saw their dead bodies hanging from a tree. They had used a salwar shawl and a lungi to hang themselves.

Currently, the Sullia police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
