Belagavi, Dec 10, 2025: The Karnataka government is moving ahead with plans to establish a commercial office tech park (IT Park) under the Public–Private Partnership (PPP) model in the coastal region, citing vast opportunities for investment and job creation in Udupi, Mangaluru, and Manipal, IT and BT Minister Priyank Kharge informed the Assembly on Wednesday.

Responding to a question raised by BJP MLA Dr. Y. Bharat Shetty during the Question Hour, Kharge said that a tender has been invited for the proposed IT Park at Derebail (Blueberry Hills Road) in Kasaba Hobli, Mangaluru. The project has been allotted a 30-year period covering design, construction, financing, operation, and eventual transfer. Tender bidding is scheduled for December 15, he added.
Kharge noted that prior to initiating the project, discussions were held with IT companies, educational institutions, entrepreneurs, and local legislators. Udupi, Mangaluru, and Manipal have been grouped into a single cluster to boost employment generation and overall development, he said.
Raising concerns, Dr. Bharat Shetty said that the IT Park would significantly benefit regional economic growth but questioned the feasibility of the requirement for builders to deposit 50% of the land value. Such a condition would make obtaining bank loans difficult and is impractical for government-owned properties, he argued, urging the government to reconsider the policy.
In response, Kharge clarified that the tender process on December 15 will proceed as planned. A review may be undertaken afterward if required, he assured.
