Mangalore, Mar 28: District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar laid the foundation stone for the new Jeppu Market at a special function held on March 28, Monday.

In his address, he said that the new market will be well-equipped to meet the requirements of fisherwomen in collaboration with the National Fisheries Development Corporation (NFDC). He said that the NFDC has sanctioned Rs. 83.25 lakhs and that the MCC will release Rs. 9.25 lakhs toward the construction of this market. He also said that Rs. 10 lakh will be sanctioned for the development of every fish market so that fisherwomen and customers alike can enjoy the best facilities.


He further stated that Mangalore City Corporation and National Fisheries Development Corporation will bear the construction expense in the ratio of 90:10.


He said that that work has commenced on the Bejai Market, but is moving slowly owing to lack of funds. He also said that the fish market near State Bank will soon be shifted to the Central Market after the air conditioned market has been constructed.


Deputy Speaker N. Yogesh Bhat said that the markets located at Urwa Circle, Urwa Market, Kavoor, Kuloor, and other places will soon be developed.


Later, the flaws of the Comprehensive Development Project (CDP) were discussed under the guidance of Suresh Kumar. District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar, MLC Ganesh Karnik, Mayor Praveen, MUDA Chairman Manjunath Bhandary, and other officials have simplified norms for city residents willing to construct houses on 3 cents of land.


The foundation stone was also laid in the Alake Market at the cost of approximately Rs. 65 lakhs.


Mayor Praveen, Deputy Mayor Geetha Nayak, and other MCC members were also present on the occasion.
