Meena Mela brings joy to underprivileged kids

 Mangalore, Mar 16, 2013:  : A Children’s Festival-Meena Mela organised at the Canara High School grounds at Urva on March 15, Friday, gave a golden opportunity for the under privileged kids from the Chinnara Thangudhama  not only to be seated on the dais along with the guests, but also to share their experiences.

The programme was a joint initiative of Department of Public Instructions, Office of the Block Education Officers and Kshetra Sampanmoola Kendras.


Asha Nayak, CWC Chairperson and Shareefa Zubaida, a student jointly inaugurated the festival.  Narrating her experiences at Chinnara Thangudhama which she had joined last year, one of the participants Manjula said    she had to join work as a domestic help due to financial problems at home.

She was thankful to Chinnara Thangudhama volunteers who noticed her and gave an opportunity to her to continue her studies. “I want to study well and become a teacher. I will be joining fifth standard next year,” she said.


Philomena Lobo, Assistant Director of the Department of Public Instructions, presided over the function. Geetha Devadas, Assistant Project Officer of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan of the Adoor Lower Primary School, and several others spoke on the occasion.


Lakshminarayana, Block Education Officer,  Gracy Gonsalves, Children’s Welfare Officer, Ashajyothi Rai of Aasare Trust and others were present.


The Meena Mela had a science fest, food fest and various other  entertainment programmes that enlivened the minds and hearts of the students.
