Mangalore, Oct 24, 2013 : The death of a woman hailing from Elinje of Aikala near Kinnigoli within days of her delivery at the Lady Goschen Hospital in Mangalore, has kicked off a controversy with family members blaming medical negligence for her death.
They have even lodged a complaint with Bunder police.
Prema Amin (35) was admitted to Lady Goschen Hospital 13 days ago and had delivered a baby on October 15. However, the premature baby had died the same day.
Prema, wife of one Madhava of Elinje had come Mangalore to get her name registered for Aadhaar card on October 10.
She had even been to Lady Goschen Hospital the same day for a check-up as she was eight months pregnant. Doctors who examined her suggested that she be admitted to hospital as she had high blood pressure and other health problems, On October 15, she had delivered a pre-mature baby which died the same evening.
Meanwhile, high diabetes also resulted in illness and as per the doctors’ advice the family shifted Prema to Wenlock Hospital. Prema who was undergoing treatment at the ICU died on October 23, Wednesday afternoon.
Her family which has blamed medical negligence for her death has now demanded that her post-mortem be done at a private hospital.
Wenlock doctor reacts : Dr Rajeshwari of Wenlock has said Prema was suffering from kidney problem when she was admitted to the hospital and that kidney problem was common in diabetes patients. She said she was given dialysis and was placed in ICU but did not respond to treatment.
