Udupi, Aug 1, 2013 : The media has undergone a lot of changes over the past few years. The number of media houses has increased but not the quality, regretted Rajdeep Sardesai, renowned Television journalist.
He was participating in an interactive meet with students of Manipal School of Communication on July 31, Wednesday. “ The electronic media which is giving a lot of importance to negative reports in the recent past should give more priority to positive reporting,” the senior journalist observed.
“ News media should be the voice of the people, but not aim just at entertainment and glorification of crime. They should function with sincerity and credibility and also with self regulation,” he observed.
Before presenting a news, the media should first analyse whether it is in public interest or not. He further observed that the media should have an Autonomous Regulatory Authority which however should not be under government control.
Varadesh Hiregange, Director of Manipal School of Communication, Alexander Chandy of Manipal University and others were present.
