Udupi, 2, july 2012 : Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the Press Day, organized by the Udupi District Working Journalists’ Association on July 1, Sunday, senior journalist Asha Krishnaswamy spoke of the need to make news reports more authentic.
The senior journalist also unveiled the photocopy of the first edition of the first Kannada newspaper “Mangalooru Samachara.”
She expressed her opinion that media reports lose credibility when the media gets too close to the police department, political parties, and bureaucrats.
S. K. Shyamasundar, editor of oneindia.in, was the chief guest of the occasion. In his address, he voiced his opinion that launching a campaign to popularize Kannada online is the need of the hour. If this is done, one can search for information in Kannada too, he added.
Madhava Acharya, UNI reporter, was felicitated on this occasion.
The organizers displayed various photos clicked by the members of the association, and distributed prizes among the winners of the essay contest organized for high school and pre-university college students.
The guest of honor was Prabhudeva Maane, Udupi deputy superintendent of police.
