Mangaluru, July 20, 2024: The Maravoor dam constructed across Phalguni river in Adyapady village, has filled upcompletely due to heavy rains. This has caused problems to residents of as many as 30 houses which are now surrounded by water. The dam water has also gushed into nearly eight houses and several acres of farm lands are also water logged.
Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan visited the affected areas on Friday and took stock of the situation. The administration has made arrangements to provide shelter to the affected families in a nearby school.
There has been a complaint since long that this bridge was constructed unscientifically without any channels. As a result whenever the dam gets filled up, it creates an artificial flooding in Adyapady Kudru area.
The DC visited all houses with the help of boats and convinced the family members to shift to safer locations.
The DC assured to take steps to get channels constructed for the dam which would mitigate the hardships whenever water fills up in the dam.
ZP CEO Dr Anand K, SP Yatish N, Bajpe police inspector Sandeep and others were present.
