Mangaluru, June 17, 2025: In a tragic road accident late on the night of June 16, a young physiotherapy doctor lost his life on the spot near Taretota, Nanthoor. The accident occurred when the car he was driving skidded on the rain-soaked road, struck the median, and overturned multiple times.

The deceased has been identified as Dr Mohammad Amal (29), a native of Alappuzha, Kerala. He had recently completed his physiotherapy studies and was employed at a private medical college hospital in Deralakatte.

The incident took place around 11:45 pm when Dr Amal was driving his Ciaz car towards Pumpwell from Nanthoor, accompanied by a female friend — a medical student from Kanachur Medical College. Near the National Highway Authority office, the car reportedly lost control due to high speed and slippery road conditions, hit the divider, and flipped two to three times before landing on the road.

Dr Amal sustained severe injuries and succumbed to them before he could be taken to the hospital, police sources said.

At the time of the accident, a loaded lorry approaching from behind overturned while trying to brake suddenly, as traffic had halted due to the accident. This further worsened the situation, causing a major traffic jam along the Nanthoor–Pumpwell stretch.

The woman travelling with Dr Amal sustained minor injuries and is currently out of danger. She has been admitted to a hospital for observation and treatment.

Kadri traffic police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
