Mangaluru: Rider killed, pillion boy injured in two-wheeler-car collision

Mangaluru, Sep 1, 2025: A 61-year-old man was killed and a 16-year-old boy injured in a two-wheeler–car collision at Mukka Junction on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Karunakar Shetty, a resident of Chelairu. The injured pillion rider, Vishwanath, son of Hanumanth from North Karnataka and currently residing in Chelairu, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mukka.

Police said Shetty, who worked at a shop in Mukka, was returning home after closing the shop, with Vishwanath accompanying him to buy milk. As they were crossing National Highway 66, a car heading towards Suratkal from Haleyangadi rammed into their two-wheeler.

Shetty died on the spot after being thrown onto the road, while Vishwanath sustained serious limb injuries.

The car driver, identified as Muhammad Taufiq of Haleyangadi, has been taken into custody. Mangaluru North Traffic Police inspected the site and registered a case.
