Mangaluru: Man dies by suicide after stabbing estranged girlfriend

Mangaluru, July 7, 2025: A tragic case of violence and suicide unfolded in Farangipete on Monday, July 7, as a man allegedly stabbed a woman and later died by suicide, according to the Bantwal rural police.

The victim, Divya alias Deekshitha (26), a resident of Farangipete, was reportedly in a relationship for nearly eight years with Sudheer (30) from Kodman village. However, the relationship had recently soured due to ongoing differences.

Despite the fallout, Sudheer allegedly continued to contact and follow Divya. On Monday morning, he confronted her near Sujeer Malli in Farangipete, urging her to marry him. A heated argument broke out, during which Sudheer allegedly stabbed Divya with a knife he had brought.

Though seriously injured, Divya managed to flee but collapsed nearby. Believing she had succumbed to her injuries, Sudheer is said to have gone to her rented house and taken his own life by hanging.

Police have registered a case at the Bantwal rural station, and further investigation is in progress.
