City decked in saffron as Udupi tightens security with over 3,000 personnel for PM’s visit
Udupi is preparing to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 28, with the city decked out in saffron flags, buntings, and large cut-outs as security arrangements tighten across all key locations.
Saffron-themed decorations have been put up throughout the city, and prominent intersections now feature large cut-outs of the Prime Minister. Barricades have been installed at several points, and vehicular movement will be regulated strictly according to the route plan issued by the district administration.
Security has been significantly heightened. A specialised helipad team has carried out checks at the Adi Udupi helipad, while continuous inspections are being conducted along the route leading to Sri Krishna Math. Dog squads and bomb disposal units are stationed at all critical points along the Prime Minister’s travel corridor.
Additional police personnel from neighbouring districts have been deployed, and patrolling has been intensified across Udupi. To manage the expected crowd, more than 20 designated parking zones have been arranged. On November 28, entry into the inner city will be restricted from 6 am to 3 pm, and all ongoing repair works have been temporarily halted.
Devotee entry into Sri Krishna Math will also be completely restricted between 8 am and 3 pm on the day of the visit.
“PM Modi will hold a roadshow from Bannanje to Kalsanka after landing in Adi Udupi. Over 3,000 police personnel have been deployed for security. Ten ASPs and the SPG are overseeing the arrangements along with state police. Anti-drone measures have been implemented, and the NSG and Centre for Counter Terrorism are also involved. ADGP (Law & Order) Hitendra, IG Sandeep Patil, and Chandra Gupta are in Udupi to lead the state police. Rehearsals will be held on Thursday, and we have already released traffic diversions and necessary adjustments for the programme,” said Udupi Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar.
The Prime Minister’s visit to the revered Sri Krishna Math has generated considerable excitement, with Udupi residents eagerly preparing to welcome him.
