Koppal, Nov 27, 2025: A Class 10 student from the pre-metric girls’ hostel at Itagi in Kukanur taluk delivered a baby boy, leading to a POCSO case against the youth responsible.
The girl had been admitted to the government hostel by her parents for schooling. Her delivery came as a shock to both the family and authorities. She reportedly panicked during labour and began screaming in the hostel. Hearing this, fellow students alerted the warden and informed the hospital.
She was first shifted to the Kukanur hospital and later moved to the district hospital along with the newborn for further treatment. Both mother and child are said to be stable.
Initially, suspicion fell on hostel staff since the girl’s pregnancy had gone unnoticed. However, inquiry later revealed that a youth named Hanumappagouda from outside the hostel was involved. Police have registered a case against him under the POCSO Act.
Soon after the matter came to light, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Suresh Itnal and other officials visited the hospital and directed further investigation. Authorities have also taken action against the warden and hostel staff for negligence and for failing to inform higher officials despite the student being pregnant.
A total of six people have been booked in the case, and hostel employees have been suspended.
