Short circuit triggers cylinder explosion, fire at Manipal restaurant

Udupi, Nov. 28, 2025: A fire broke out on Thursday evening at a private restaurant near RSB Hall in Manipal after two gas cylinders exploded due to a short circuit.

The flames quickly spread to a neighbouring shop, causing significant damage. A car parked near the restaurant was also damaged, and a nearby hotel suffered impact from the blast. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Fire and emergency services rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, preventing the blaze from spreading to adjacent buildings.

Udupi SP Hariram Shankar clarified that the incident occurred inside the Delhi Dhaba restaurant due to a short circuit. He confirmed that both the fire department and the police had inspected the site. “There is no room for suspicion. I am issuing this clarification to prevent any rumours. No one has been injured,” he said.
