Mangaluru, May 8, 2026: Mangaluru City Police have arrested an accused involved in cattle slaughter and theft cases who had been absconding for the past eight years and evading court proceedings.

The arrested accused has been identified as Abubakkar Siddique alias ‘Kapri Siddique’, a resident of Uppala in Kerala’s Kasargod district.

Several cases related to theft and violations of the anti-cow slaughter law had been registered against him at the Ullal, Konaje and Kankanady police stations. As Siddique repeatedly failed to appear before the court, non-bailable warrants (NBWs) were issued against him. However, he had been on the run since 2018.

To trace absconding accused persons with pending warrants, the Mangaluru City Police Commissioner had formed a special squad. Acting on credible information about Siddique’s whereabouts, a team led by PSI Siddappa and his staff successfully tracked and arrested him.

Police said Siddique was the prime accused in a 2017 theft case registered at Ullal police station, besides being involved in cattle slaughter cases under the Konaje and Kankanady police station limits.

After his arrest, Siddique was handed over to the Ullal police for further legal action. He was later produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody.

The special police team has received appreciation from the public for successfully tracing and arresting the long-absconding accused.
