Mangaluru: 7,490 traffic violation cases registered in special police drive

Mangaluru, Aug. 14, 2026: As part of its ongoing efforts to prevent road accidents, ensure effective traffic management, and facilitate smooth vehicular movement within the city, the Mangaluru City Police have been conducting special traffic enforcement drives at regular intervals.

Under these special operations, a total of 7,490 cases have been registered since June 2026 against violations that hinder pedestrian safety and obstruct the smooth flow of traffic within the Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate limits. These include no-parking violations, footpath parking, improper parking, double parking, traffic obstruction, and other parking-related offences. A total fine of ₹3,07,600 has been collected during this period.

Of the total cases, 1,080 were related to vehicles parked on footpaths.

In a separate special drive conducted from August 4 to August 12, 2026, the police targeted vehicles using fake or defective number plates, which are often misused in criminal activities. During the operation, cases were registered against 258 vehicles with defective number plates and 74 vehicles operating without number plates.

Altogether, 332 cases were booked and fines amounting to ₹3,01,000 were imposed.

The police stated that it is the responsibility of every vehicle owner to ensure that number plates are clearly displayed and fitted in accordance with prescribed norms. Vehicle owners have also been urged to install the mandated High Security Registration Plates (HSRP).

The Mangaluru City Police said such special enforcement drives will continue in the coming days and appealed to the public to strictly follow traffic rules and cooperate in ensuring safer roads and smoother traffic movement.
