Dr Shanthie Mariet DsouzaMangalore, July 24, 2012: Dr. Shanthie Mariet D’Souza, a Mangalorean research fellow at Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS), National University of Singapore, released a new book “Afghanistan in Transition: Beyond 2014?”

Dr. D’Souza is an alumnus of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, where she completed her BA in psychology, English literature, and criminology. She then got her Ph.D. in international relations, American studies, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi. She is associated with the Institute for Defense Studies and Analyses.

She is a visiting Fullbright scholar at South Asia Studies, Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), Johns Hopkins University, Washington DC (2005 – 06).

Dr Shanthie Mariet DsouzaDr. D’Souza has a number of books to her credit and has published several papers in books and journals. She is especially interested in Afghan insurgency and the counter insurgency campaigns, the transition and issues in long-term stabilization of Afghanistan, US counter terrorism policy in South Asia, India’s foreign and security policy, and many other related subjects. She has conducted a number of studies in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Jammu and Kashmir, and North East India. She has also travelled to Afghanistan to do research for her book.

Besides co-editing the books Saving Afghanistan (2009) and Perspectives on South Asian Security, she has presented and published papers titled Talking to the Taliban, Indo-US Counter Terrorism Cooperation, Taking Stock of the Global War on Terrorism, India Afghan Relations, Media and Counter Terrorism, Mumbai Terror Attacks, and others.

Her book on Afghanistan, which has been published by Pentagon Press, costs Rs. 795.
