Mangalore, Mar 16, 2013: Mangalore City Corporation has launched two solid waste management projects in front of MCC office on March 16, Saturday.


Deputy Commissioner N Prakash flagged off the Street sweeping machine and symbolically distributed the waste bins to residents of  pilot wards namely Mannagudda and Court wards. The street sweeping machine worth Rs 52 lakhs  will come handy on concrete roads and other flat surfaced roads.

The vaccum sweeping machine is installed with two side brushes. The central vaccum has the provision of water spraying. The machine consumes 7 - 8 litres of fuel in an hour cleaning 1-12 kilometers of road of 2.5 meter width.

MCC also distributed 7800 yellow and green color waste bins with 10 ltr capacity, 600 wheeled bins of 120 ltrs and 50 wheeled bins of 240 ltrs under Municipal Solid Waste Segregation project.

Each house will be given green and yellow bins to put organic waste and inorganic wastes respectively at free of cost, while the apartments will be provided  green and blue colored bin of 120 L/240 ltr capacity to be placed at the basement.

The organic waste collected will be decomposed at Biogas plant located near Urwa market, while the inorganic wastes will be carried to MCC Sanitary landfill and compost plant. The residents must take the waste from the house, when they hear the siren of the garbage vehicle in the morning.

MCC Commissioner Harish Kumar and other health officials were present on the occasion.
