Mangalore:Young man ends life by jumping from 4th floor of hospital building

 Mangalore, Jan 30, 2014: A young man hailing from Madoor near Kotekar who was admitted to a private hospital at Kodialbail in the city, died during the wee hours of January 29, Wednesday after he allegedly jumped from the fourth floor of the hospital building. It has been gathered that the man was admitted to the hospital after a suicide attempt earlier on January 27.

The deceased has been identified as Latish Poojari (29).  Earlier on January 27, he was admitted to the Wenlock Hospital  by a friend of his after  the former consumed liquor laced with poison while at a hotel  in the afternoon.

According to Latish’s  brother-in-law, Latish was admitted to Yenepoya Hospital on January 28 evening as his family felt he was not responding well to treatment at the hospital.

According to the family, Latish lost mental balance after he was given high dose of medicine on January 28 night. He tried to jump out of the ICU twice by smashing the window glass but was prevented by the ICU staff. However, the third time at around midnight he jumped out of the fourth floor window and died.

But his family is now alleging that absence of enough security and staff at the ICU led to the death of Latish.

The family of the deceased has registered a case at Mangalore North Police station against the duty doctors.
