Mangalore, June 4, 2013: The case of the death of an under trial lodged in the Mangalore jail, while he was being taken to the hospital from the prison on June 4, has been shrouded in mystery.
Sources revealed that Naveen Poojari (43), son of Rajeev Poojari of Ullal who was arrested by the Ullal cops under 96 KP Act had been lodged in the Mangalore prison on May 19.
According to Dodda Kamath, Jail in-charge, Naveen who was suffering from high fever had been taken to Wenlock Hospital for treatment on May 25. Though his blood test report was negative, he was on medication since that day. Kamath said Naveen was once again taken to the hospital on May 28 after he had recovered, but was still on medication.
He said on June 4, Tuesday Naveen complained of chest pain at around 12.30 pm and soon after collapsed. Though he was rushed to Wenlock Hospital, he was declared brought dead, Dodda Kamath informed.
There is a suspicion that Naveen might have died of cardiac arrest. However, the exact cause of his death is not yet known. Barke police have registered a case. The body has been shifted to Wenlock for a post-mortem.
