Mangalore June 6, 2013: A school teacher was robbed of gold ornaments weighing nearly 109 grams after she was fooled by two thieves posing themselves as policemen at Carstreet in Mangalore on June 6, Thursday morning.
The teacher named Vanitha who hailed from Konaje and worked in a girls’ school here was on her way to school on Thursday morning at around 9.30 am when a stranger approached her and introduced himself as a police constable. He told her that a case has been registered against her and she need to talk to the inspector who was near the bus stand. Believing him, the teacher walked towards the bus stand where another person was present and told her to hand over her jewels to him.
When she resisted, he threatened her in a raised tone leaving Vanitha confused. She then reportedly handed over her two bangles and kariyamani chain to the strangers. As both left the place, the teacher had realised that she was cheated.
She immediately informed her husband who was also a teacher in the same school. However, it was too late by then as the duo was not to be seen. Bunder police are conducting the investigations.
Similar such cases have been reported in the past and despite police cautioning the public, particularly women against believing strangers, such incidents have been repeating.
