Mangalore, March 19, 2013: The Congress party which is riding high after its thumping win in the Urban Local Body elections, on March 18, Monday launched its publicity campaign for the forthcoming assembly elections.
The function held at Nehru Maidan was attended by a large number of party leaders, newly elected representatives and party workers.
The meet was also held to thank the voters for bringing the Congress to power in majority of the local administrative bodies.
Several top leaders including Janardhan Poojari, Oscar Fernandes, Veerappa Moily, Ramanatha Rai and other dignitaries inaugurated the meet by lighting the lamp.
Union Minister for Petroleum M Veerappa Moily who spoke on the occasion congratulated the party workers and leaders for striving hard for the success in the recently held ULB elections and urged them to take the oath sincerely and act accordingly.
Moily gave a clarion call to the Congress leaders and workers to work unitedly for the victory in the ensuing elections and give a major jolt to the ruling BJP. He said given the present circumstances, only the Congress can do justice to the nation and help in wiping out the social evils.Senior leader and Rajya Sabha Member Oscar Fernandes said the party would make all possible efforts to fulfill the promises made in the election manifesto.
District Congress President B Ramanatha Rai presided over the function.
Several leaders including MP Jayaprakash Hegde , MLAs Abhayachandra, UT Khader, former MP Vinaykumar Sorake, Mamatha Gatti, Shakuntala Shetty, Mithun Raj, Moidin Bava Ashith Pereira, JR Lobo, Ibrahim Kodijal, Ivan D’Souza and others were present.
