Mangalore, Feb 27, 2013: Prof Swapan Bhattacharya Director of National Institute of Technology Karnataka (Surathkal) inaugurated the two-day Science Fair on the theme ‘Materials for the future’ organized by St Agnes College (Autonomous) at its auditorium on Feb 27, Wednesday. The two-day fair is sponsored by Department of Bio-Technology, Government of India, under the Star College scheme.


In his address, Prof Bhattacharya regretted the fact that India which accords top priority to knowledge, at the same time failed to duly recognize as well as encourage skills.

 “Most of the engineering colleges produce engineering graduates and professionals of poor quality who will not contribute anything to the society. This trend will continue until the society attaches importance to skills,” he added. Prof Swapan Bhattacharya urged the students, to enjoy whichever profession they choose with passion.


Delivering the presidential address, Principal of the College Sr Prem D’Souza urged the students to understand the purpose of their living and discover new scientific concepts every day.


Dr Saraswathi S Rao, Head of Physics Department and Prof Ronald Mascarenhas, Head of Chemistry Department were present on the occasion.
