Mangalore, Jan 20, 2012 : Padmanabhadas Uthradam Thirunal Marthanda Varma Maharaj, the Maharaja of Travancore, met Kadri Gopalnath, the renowned saxophonist, by chance at Kadri Temple on January 19 Thursday.
The maharaja, who had participated in the Paryaya Festival in Udupi, had visited Kadri Manjunatha Temple to worship the presiding deity. Kadri Gopalnath and his family had visited the temple to offer a 3-foot tall silver idol of Mathsyendranatha worth Rs. 10 lakh and weighing 10kgs, which was made in GRT Sangha Maalige in Chennai during the past 4 months.
The Maharaja requested the saxophonist to play for him on the occasion of his 90th birthday, which will be celebrated in March.
The swamiji of Pejawar Mutt, A. J. Shetty, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, Kadri Jogi Mutt Rajyogi Shri Taponidhi Sandyanathji, and many others were also present.
