Bangalore, March 30, 2013: Mangalore MLA UT Khader was one among the nine MLAs of Karnataka who bagged the Best MLA Award given by Shining Infomedia Ltd, a media company from Bangalore. The ninth edition of the Shining India Awards 2013 was held at the Chowdaiah Memorial Hall here on March 28, Thursday.
Out of the total 75 nominees, nine were shortlisted. Apart from UT Khader, the other awardees included B Suresh Gowda from Tumkur (Rural), K J George from Sarvajnanagar, S Muniraju from Dasarahalli, Dr Ashwath Narayan from Malleshwaram, R Ashok (Deputy CM) from Padmanabhanagar, Suresh Kumar from Rajajinagar, Siddaramaiah from Varuna and H D Revanna from Holanarasipur.
A team of 55 journalists conducted a survey in 224 constituencies of the state for a period of six months. A 15 member jury selected the awardees. The eligibility of the elected representatives, their approachability, behaviour, their works in the constituency were considered among other things.
The Best Minister Award went to Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, State Minister for Education, while DB Chandregowda of Bangalore North was adjudged the Best MP of Karnataka. Bhavana Ramanna bagged the Best Actress of Karnataka, while senior journalist OP Yadav from DD News bagged the Best Social Service Award.
In the past, Shine Infomedia had organised the award ceremonies in the states of Delhi, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat.
