Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Jan 6, 2011: Ramanath Rai, the MLA of Bantwal, has accused the Sangh Parivar of hoisting the flag of Pakistan on a government building in Bijapur and of denying it out of fear.

Addressing reporters at a press conference held in the office of the district unit of the Congress Party, he said that the Sangh Parivar is trying out different ways to attain power in the state. He urged all Hindus to condemn this act, which has the potential to give rise to communal violence. He also urged the state government to take action against the miscreants.

Regarding the incident in which stones were pelted on the Sullia Police Station, he said that this is an insult to democracy, particularly because the government had absolutely no power to stop its own people.

Opposing the practice of taking students in school vehicles to participate in protests and rallies organized by right wing organizations, he said that he has written to the president of the India, the governor of Karnataka, and the chief of the PU Board to create rules preventing students from participating in communal programs.

He also informed reporters that Madhusudhan Mistri, the general secretary of the AICC, will come to Mangalore to participate in a meeting held to discuss the development of the party at Shanthi Kiran Hall in Nanthoor on the morning of Jan 9 Monday.

He said that Veerappa Moily, the union minister for corporate affairs; Oscar Fernandes, the Congress leader; and Janardhan Poojary, the former union minister, will participate in this meeting.

Vijayakumar Shetty, the former MLA, and Congress workers Ibrahim Kodijal, Ivan D’Souza, Mamatha Gatti, Mithun Rai, Appi, Lancelot Pinto, and Sudhir T. K. were also present.
