MCC, tourism department serve notices on home stay owner

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Aug 1, 2012: The Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) has pasted a notice at the entrance of Morning Mist Home Stay in Padil, stating that, being a residential building, it is not licensed to be used for commercial purposes. The notice bears the date July 30 and the signature of the MCC health officer.

The notice further confirms that the owner has been using the venue for birthday parties, engagement parties, and so on without getting the MCC’s permission. The civic body has demanded a written explanation from Dr. Francis Pascal Subil Rebello, the owner of the home stay, failing which the civic body will take legal action against him and will seal the building as it has caused a lot of trouble to the local people.

MCC Health Officer Dr. Sudarshan B. M. said that the civic body will extend the deadline for Dr. Rebello to give a written explanation as it could not contact him. Since the owner cannot be contacted, the MCC has pasted the notice at the entrance. As soon as the civic body can contact the owner, it will issue a notice on him, he added.

The district unit of the Tourism Department of the Government of Karnataka has also pasted a notice at the entrance of the home stay, flaying the owner for using the structure as a home stay without getting the department’s permission.

The notice further states that the fact that the term home stay was used for the building and it was used for commercial purposes without first taking the tourism department’s permission puts the department in the wrong, especially as students celebrating a party there were recently attacked. The department has directed the owner to submit documents related to the home stay within one week, failing which it will take legal action against the owner.
