Mangalore, Sep 14, 2012 :MJF Lion I. A. Kairanna, retired physical education teacher a St. Aloysius High School and former district-level Scouts and Guides officer, died at the age of 84 in a private hospital on September 12, Wednesday.

 

KairannaKairanna, who had joined the Scouts in 1949 when he was a student, rapidly attained ranks such as King’s Scout and Rover Scout. He also got his Scout master training in 1953. Having joined St. Aloysius High School as a physical education trainer in 1954, he served there for 32 long years.

He has held various posts in the South Kanara Scout Association and played an active role in getting private premises for the Scouts and Guides of the district. Besides, he has taken part in Scouts events held in Norway, England, Germany, Switzerland, Bangladesh, and other countries.

He has also organized several district and state-level jamborettes and has received medals at the state and national levels. As an active cadet, he has also served as the chief officer of the NCC Army Wing for 18 years.

He was also actively involved in several religious and cultural organizations. The Rajyothsava Award was conferred on him in recognition of his services to society.
