Mangaluru, Oct 13, 2023: The Congress government in the state  has implemented the schemes related to fisheries as announced in the budget within five months, but what has the BJP done in the past four year of its rule, come for a debate with us on this issue, challenged KPCC Vice President Ivan D’Souza.

He was addressing a press meet at the Congress office on October 13, Friday in response to the allegations made against the government by Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath in Mangaluru and Yashpal Suvarna, Udupi MLA in Udupi.

Ivan said though it is just five months since the Congress government came to power, it has taken measures to implement schemes as announced in its manifesto. The achievements of the government has made the BJP desperate, he alleged.

The government has issued an order increasing the annual tax-free diesel limit from the earlier 1.5 lakh kilo liters to 2 lakh kilo litres. As the requisite quantity of subsidized kerosene is not yet released from the Centre, the state government has purchased  kerosene on its own and is providing the same to fishermen at the rate of Rs 35 per litre, he said.

Dredging operations at a cost of Rs 3.9 lakhs has commenced at estuary. The  government has provided Rs 20 crore for conversion of kerosene engine  boats into petrol/diesel engine boats through a subsidy of Rs 50,000.

On alleged cheating in registrar office and the allegation of the MLA, Ivan said it is not enough to merely level allegation. The MLA must urge for action from the government and let him do what he can do in his capacity as MLA, he said.

He said under the Congress rule, the guarantee schemes of the government are in the news while in the BJP rule, bitcoin, Covid scams as well as 40% scam ruled the roost.

Party leaders Shashidhar Hegde, Ashraf and others were present.
