Kundapur, June 4, 2025: In two separate incidents involving physical assault and caste-based abuse, police in Gangolli and Kollur have registered FIRs and arrested three individuals.

The arrested have been identified as Karthik Achari (24) of Eduru-Kunjadi village, Vishnu Shetty (26), and Pradeep Poojary (28) of Aluru village in Kundapura.

Assault

In the first case, Ganesh, a conductor of the Jayadurga bus on the Aluru–Kundapura route, was allegedly assaulted on June 2 at the Hoyigehara bus stop in Aluru. As per the complaint, Pradeep and five others boarded the bus, grabbed Ganesh by his shirt collar, punched him in the mouth causing bleeding injuries, kicked him in the chest, struck his neck, and robbed a bag containing ₹15,700 in cash. They also reportedly issued death threats. Gangolli police have registered a case in connection with the assault.

The second incident occurred later that night around 9:30 pm. Sudheer, the complainant, was allegedly attacked after getting off a bus at Eduru-Kunjadi village. While walking along the road, he was confronted by three individuals—Karthik, Vishnu, and Rakshith—who allegedly hurled casteist abuses at him. Karthik is said to have slapped Sudheer, attempted to strangle him, and tried to kill him. Kollur police have registered a case under relevant sections.

All three accused have been taken into custody and produced before the court.
