Bengaluru, June 6, 2025: In a joint operation, the crime branch and Bengluru Police detained four people, including the marketing manager of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), in connection with the death of 11 in a stampede in the city.
Top sources in the Bengaluru police department and the Central Crime Branch (CCB) have confirmed the development to DH and said that the four were detained at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on the outskirts of the city as they were attempting to flee.
"The four have been secured and further procedure is underway. They are yet to be produced before the court and the formalisation of the arrest process is underway," the well-placed source said.
The source identified one of the key suspects as Nikhil Sosale, Head of Marketing and Revenue, RCB. The details of the other three are yet to be revealed, while some media reports identified the second suspect as Sunil Mathew from DNA Entertainment Private Limited, the event management firm.
Identities of the other two are yet to be known.
The swift operation follows the FIR registered on Thursday against RCB, the event management firm, and Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).
Apart from the eleven dead, over sixty were injured during the stampede at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday when RCB celebrated their winning of the maiden IPL title.
