Labourer killed, four others injured as soil caves in at granite quarry in Hassan

Hassan, June 6, 2025: One labourer died and four seriously injured, after soil mound and boulders collapsed on him at a granite quarry in Dhumagere village in Hassan taluk, on Thursday night.
It is said that the mishap occurred during granite stone cutting.
The seriously injured Mani was being shifted to Bengaluru for treatment, when he died en route. The injured have been admitted to private hospital in Hassan.
Deputy Commissioner C Sathyabhama SP Mohammed Sujitha and Mines and Geology department officials visited the spot immediately, and took stock of the situation, on Thursday night.
SP Mohammed Sujitha said that there is information that one person has died and four injured so far. The injured are undergoing treatment at a private hospital. A probe has been initiated on the number of deaths and injured.
Quarry owner Devaraj, his son Arjun and staff Prakash have been taken into custody by Shantigrama police.
As there is suspicion that the deceased Mani’s body has been taken to Kollegal in Chamarajanagar district, the police have gone to Kollegal.
