Kundapur, June 4, 2025: Fear has spread among residents of Siddapura, Hosangadi, Kamalashile, and nearby areas following the movement of a lone wild elephant in the region.
The elephant was seen descending from Balebare Ghat and moving toward Siddapura town. Locals confirmed sightings in and around Hulikal check post, Hosangadi, Siddapura, and Kamalashile.
As a safety precaution, the weekly market scheduled in Siddapura for June 4 was cancelled. Additionally, all Anganwadi centres, primary, and high schools in the area were declared closed for the day by the Kundapur Tahsildar.
Byndoor MLA Gururaj Gantihole addressed the situation, urging residents to stay alert. “It appears the elephant has strayed from its usual path into residential areas. It is a collared elephant, and the forest department’s task force is actively tracking its movement. I have spoken to forest officials and the task force team, and they are closely monitoring the situation,” he said.
He advised the public to limit outdoor activities between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. and to avoid venturing out alone. “Efforts are underway to safely capture and relocate the elephant to its natural habitat. Anyone who spots the animal should immediately inform forest authorities,” he added.
