Kundapur: Cancellation of over 120 ration cards triggers protest

Kundapur, Mar 21, 2013: Villagers of Beloor in Kundapur taluk are up in arms against the authorities for cancelling as many as 120 ration cards without any prior notice or valid reason.


They staged a protest in front of the Kota Co-operative Agricultural Bank on March 20, Wednesday and took the officials to task for their lackadaisical approach.

The villagers alleged that the cancellation of the ration cards has hit hard many of them who are poor and are struggling to make two ends meet. Many of them said they came to know that their ration cards were cancelled only when they approached the ration shop this month to purchase the food materials supplied through PDS.


The villagers were in no mood to hear the officials of the Food and Civil Supplies Department who rushed to the spot to pacify them. Finally, several local elected representatives including Suresh Marakala, Vice President of Beloor GP,  Deepika Shetty,  President of the Beloor Branch of the Co-operative Society, Karunaker Shetty, President of the Bank and others rushed to the spot and assured to solve the problems of the agitators.
