Kasargod: Body of Belagavi youth found in river two days after being swept away with bike

Kasargod, Jul 21, 2025: The body of an 18-year-old labourer from Belagavi, who had gone missing along with his bike in the Manjattadka river at Panathur, was found on Monday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Durgappa (18) from Belagavi.

His body was recovered a short distance from the incident spot during a search operation this morning. Heavy rainfall had increased the water current, hindering search efforts for the past two days. Durgappa had gone missing on the afternoon of July 17, after being swept away while riding his bike to fetch food.

He was employed as an assistant to a JCB operator at the Rajapur Horticulture Corporation’s pineapple farm.

Since both he and the bike were missing, it was suspected that he may have been washed away by the river. A missing report was filed at the Rajapur police station. Police, fire department personnel, and local residents had carried out the search operation.

His body has been kept at the mortuary of Kasargod General Hospital.
