Mangalore, June13, 2012 : Umanath B. Kotian, president of the Karnataka Tulu Sahithya Academy, said that the academy will confer its annual awards at an awards ceremony scheduled to be held in Town Hall on June 16. He was addressing a press meet in the academy’s chavadi on June 12, Tuesday.
Revealing further details, he said that Mangalore South MLA and Deputy Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly Yogish Bhat will preside and Bannanje Babu Amin, folk scholar and researcher, will inaugurate the event.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel will give away the honorary awards, and MLA Krishna J. Palemar will give away the book awards. Writer Hampa Nagarajaiah will release Kavigalu Kanda Tulunadu, a collection of Tulu poems compiled by Dr. Vasanth Kumar Perla.
The special guests of the event will be Gulzar Banu, mayor of Mangalore; U. T. Khader, MLA of Mangalore; MLCs Kota Shrinivas Poojary and Captain Ganesh Karnik; Shailaja Bhat, president of the DK ZP; Katpady Shankar Poojary, president of the Udupi ZP; Basavaraj, secretary of the Kannada and Culture Department; Dr. M. Mohan Alva, president of Alva’s Education Trust; Ram Shetty, film director; Gurukiran, noted music director; and Manohar Prasad, senior journalist.
The academy will confer its honorary awards on Bola Chittaranjandas Shetty (literature), Sitaram Shetty (theatre), and T. A. Shrinivas (film) and the book awards on Dr. Ashok Alva, Puttige Padmanabha Rai, and Ratnakar Rao Kavoor.
The Guttigar-based Nesara Artists will present a skit and Lalita Koota will present Tulunada Beere Devu Punje, a Tulu historical play directed by Lion Kishore D. Shetty.
