Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Oct 22, 2025: In connection with the suicide case of Abhishek Acharya from Karkala, the Kadri police have arrested a young man for allegedly circulating obscene photos of a woman involved in the case on social media and for making casteist remarks.

The arrested individual has been identified as Nikhil Raj (27), a resident of Kapikudda, near Akash Bhavan in Kavoor. Based on a complaint lodged by the woman at Kadri Police Station, the police registered a case. The accused’s mobile phone used in the offense has been seized. According to police officials, he will be produced before the court.

Sucide case

Before committing suicide, Abhishek Acharya of Nitte village in Karkala had allegedly shared obscene photos and videos of the woman on social media. He had also reportedly sent the woman photos of himself preparing to hang himself, after which he ended his life. These allegations were made by the woman in her complaint.

The complaint further stated that Abhishek’s brother, Abhijith Acharya, along with others, had shared Abhishek’s death note and the woman’s obscene photos across various social media platforms, causing public defamation and emotional trauma to her.

As the woman belongs to a Scheduled Caste (SC), the police have registered the case under relevant sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act (SC/ST Act).

The police stated that there is supporting evidence that casteist language was used in social media messages shared by the accused. Hence, Nikhil Raj has been arrested.

An investigation is underway regarding the obscene messages sent to the woman, and a case under the SC/ST Act has been filed. Authorities also confirmed that strict action will be taken against all individuals involved in such acts. Others who have shared the obscene photos and messages on social media will also be arrested.
