Mangaluru/Udupi, May 28, 2026: Eid-ul-Azha (Bakrid) was celebrated with religious fervour, joy, and communal harmony across the coastal districts of Mangaluru and Udupi on Thursday, May 28.

Celebrations in Dakshina Kannada district


Muslims dressed in festive attire gathered early in the morning at the Idgah Maidan on Light House Hill in Mangaluru and at mosques across the region to offer special Eid prayers. After the namaz, devotees exchanged Eid greetings by embracing one another and shaking hands. Families and friends later visited each other’s homes to share festive meals and greetings.

Celebrations across Udupi district

Special Eid prayers were also held across Udupi district, including at the renowned Gangolli Eidgah and mosques in Udupi city, Kaup, Brahmavar, Kundapur, Byndoor, Hebri, and Karkala taluks. Several mosques made separate seating arrangements for women worshippers.

At the Udupi Jamia Masjid, the prayers were led by Maulana Abdur Rasheed Nadvi, while Maulana Inayathullah Razvi led the congregation at the Udupi Anjuman Masjid. At the Moolur Juma Masjid, the central mosque of the Udupi District Joint Jamaat, Khateeb Hafiz Muhammed Ashraf Sakhafi conducted the prayers and delivered the Khutba. Coastal Development Board chairman M A Gafoor also participated in the prayers.

In Kundapur, devotees took out an Eid procession from the Kundapur Juma Masjid to the Eidgah grounds, where the main congregation was held.

Religious leaders spread message of harmony

Religious leaders, while addressing devotees after the prayers, stressed the importance of maintaining peace, communal harmony, and unity in society.

At the Hashimi Masjid in Brahmagiri Nayarkere, Imam Obaidur Rahman Nadvi urged the community to celebrate festivals in an exemplary manner and appealed to parents to keep a close watch on their children to protect them from drug addiction and reckless driving without helmets or valid licences.

Mosque president Zakriya Assadi and secretary M Iqbal Manna also conveyed Eid greetings to the community.

Police personnel were deployed at sensitive locations across both districts to ensure peaceful celebrations and maintain law and order during the festival.
