Mangalore, Sep25: NITTE KS Hegde Medical College (KSHEMA) and Kasturba Medical College (KMC) organized a rally to enhance awareness on heart issues early this morning as part of World Heart Day.
While the rally organized by KSHEMA commenced at Pumpwell and concluded at IMA, the rally organized by KMC commenced at Bejai and concluded at Attavar.
Nitte Heart Run
Alok Mohan, the IGP of western range, flagged off the run.
Vinay Hede, the chancellor of NITTE University, and Dr. M. Shantaram Shetty, the orthopedic surgeon, were also present.
The runners raised heart awareness slogans and displayed banners throughout the run.
KMC Heart Run
The torch bearer of the event was Reeth Abraham, the internationally acclaimed athlete, and the celebrity guest was Javagal Shrinath, the cricketer.
The runners passed Lalbagh, PVC Circle, and Bunts Hostel before reaching KMC. Prizes were distributed for best corporate participation, best placard, best institution participation, youngest participant, best slogan shouting, and eldest participant.
Prizes were distributed among the winners of the drawing competition, which was held on September 10 at KMC Hospital Attavar, during the valedictory ceremony.
Javagal Shrinath, who is the referee of the International Cricket Council and the secretary of the Karnataka State Cricket Association, and Reeth Abraham were felicitated.
The guests of honor were District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar, Mangalore MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Deputy Speaker N. Yogish Bhat, Mangalore Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, and Manipal University Registrar Dr. G. K. Prabhu.
Shrinath speaks about cricket
Later interacting with reporters at the DK Cricket Association Building, Mr. Shrinath said that stadia are being built in Hubli and Mysore and one stadium will soon be built in Shimoga too.
He also said that KPL matches will commence in February and auctions will be held in December and that the ICC is in the process of solving the UDRS issue.
He also urged the people in DK to support cricket.
