Mangalore, Jul 15: The Justice B. K. Somashekar Commission of Inquiry, which was constituted by the state government to investigate the 2008 attacks on churches, examined 3 witnesses in Mangalore Circuit House on July 15. The inquiry will continue on July 16 and is expected to conclude by the end of this month.

The three witnesses examined by the committee were Asha Jagadish, Bhagawan Das, and Chandrashekar; and the examination of one of them will be continued tomorrow. The commission will conduct an inquiry at Balabrooie Guesthouse in Bangalore on July 19 – 21.

The commission completed enquiring 988 of the 1019 petitions submitted to it on July 8, 2010 and partially examined 31 witnesses. Any extra time required by the commission to complete its inquiry will be assessed after the judicial sittings. The government has already extended the deadline by 3 months, owing to which the commission ought to conclude its inquiry within the end of this month.

Secretary of the Commission Vidhyashankar said that the commission ought to complete its examination of 23 witnesses in Mangalore, of whom the key witnesses N. Sathish Kumar, the former superintendent of police in DK; Dharmaiah, the former deputy superintendent of police; and Mahindra Kumar, the leader of Bajrang Dal, will be examined in Bangalore.
