Mangalore, Jan 19, 2012: G. S. Bhaskar, the renowned cinematographer, inaugurated the International Film Festival 2012 at the Conference Hall of SDM College of Business Management on January 19 Thursday.
The event is being jointly organized by SDMBM and Sahamatha Film Society of Mangalore.
In his inaugural address, Mr. Bhaskar said that art films can be better appreciated by people who have learned to identify the difference between art films and commercial films. Speaking about the differences between art films and commercial films, he said that film makers usually focus on commercial films. Art films are beneficial in that they make viewers think about the various perspectives shown in the films, he said.
Several foreign as well as Indian films will be screened in the auditorium, some of which are Me Shivajiraje Bhosle Boltoy (Marathi), The Violin (Mexican), Kanjeevaram (Tamil), Il Postino (Italian), Adaminde Magan Abu (Malayalam), Baran (Iranian), and others. Each screening will be followed by a discussion.
Kubi Mattu Iyala, a Kannada art film based on a novel written by Poornachandra Tejaswi, will be the first to be screened. Sadananda Suvarna and G. S. Bhaskar, the producer and the cinematographer of this movie, were present.
Dr. Devaraj, the principal of SDMBM, and Vasudev Ucchil, the president of Sahamatha Film Society, were also present.
