Mangalore, September 25: The Indian Coast Guard, MRPL, Corporation Bank, KMC, A. J. Hospital, and the district administration jointly organized observed the International Coastal Clean Up Day at Panambur on September 25, Saturday. Poonam Jha, the wife of Indian Coastal Guard Commandant P. S. Jha, inaugurated the event.

Rajendra Singh Sapal, the commandant of the Indian Coastal Guard of Karnataka, said that the event is being held to create public awareness on cleanliness and hygiene. The International Coastal Clean Up Day is held on the 3rd Saturday of September annually, he informed.


Around 110 cadets from various schools and 450 other students participated in the event and cleared the beach of waste. Besides, the Coast Guard observed the day at Tannirbhavi, Malpe, Suratkal, Malpe, Karwar, Kumta, and Murudeshwar, he said.
