Voicing his opinions, Mr. Prasad said that the Indian Constitution, which is considered to be the best in the world, is now treated as a mere sacred book. He said that India would have become a democratic model for the world if the governments of India had successfully implemented it.

Stating that the constitution is being violated in every village and city of India, he said that Indians have ignored their wonderful constitution and are instead following an unwritten constitution ever since the day the country got its independence.

S. R. Nayak, the chairman of the Karnataka State Human Rights Commission, inaugurated the programme and said that widespread corruption is destroying the country’s democratic image. Condemning corruption, he said that it is not only confined to politics, but has also crossed all limits and has infiltrated into the judiciary and police department too.

Boluvaru Mohammed Kunnhi, the senior litterateur of the vedike, who recently bagged the Kendra Sahithya Academy Award, was felicitated on the occasion.

B. M. Haneef, the sub editor of Sudha Kannada weekly; Seemanth Kumar Singh, commissioner of Mangalore; and Vedike office bearers Kishore Yermal, A. Ravishankar Shetty, and K. Suresh Ballal were among those present.
