Mangaluru, June 15, 2025: Anticipating continued heavy rains, Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner Mullai Muhilan has instructed tahsildars and incident commanders to evacuate families from at-risk homes to safer locations. Flood-prone areas are under strict surveillance, with rescue equipment on standby. Control rooms in all taluks and the city corporation are operating 24/7 to ensure swift disaster response, and any lapses will face strict action.

In Mangaluru, rainwater entered homes in Attavar, affecting several families. Twelve families were relocated to a relief centre at Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall, where essentials were provided. City corporation commissioner Ravichandra Naik inspected the arrangements. Mr. Muhilan has instructed official to shift such families facing risks to relief centres.


The Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner of MCC also visited the Pumpwell area which one was the worst affected and discussed with officials the steps that have to be take to drain out water.

 

Heavy Rains Lash Udupi District
Udupi district witnessed heavy rainfall under a red alert on Saturday. While waterlogging disrupted commuters and damaged five houses, no major incidents were reported. Strong winds uprooted trees, causing damages worth ₹1.77 lakh.

The red alert ends today, with an orange alert issued for June 16–17. Areas including Udupi, Manipal, and Karkala saw heavy showers, while roads and highways in low-lying regions were waterlogged, hampering traffic.


Train Services Disrupted Between Mangaluru and Surathkal
Train services between Mangaluru and Surathkal were disrupted on Saturday evening after boulders and a tree fell on the railway track between Jokatte and Padil sections at around 5:10 p.m. As a result, Train No. 56615 Madgaon Junction–Mangaluru Central was partially canceled between Surathkal and Mangaluru Central, with services short-terminated at Surathkal. Railway authorities swiftly cleared the debris, and train operations resumed later in the night.
