Happy over my performance as Tulu Academy Chief : Umanath Kotian

Mangalore, June 1, 2013: Umanath A  Kotian, former president of the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy    has said that  he has the satisfaction of  discharging his duties to the best of his capabilities  during his four year term as president of the Academy.

Speaking to reporters at Patrika Bhavan here on May 31, Friday, Kotian in his maiden press conference after relinquishing charge as the Academy Chief, said during his tenure various programmes were organised by the Academy to promote and preserve Tulu language.  The Chavadi programme as well as several programmes organised  in neighbouring states to popularize Tulu have been successful, he informed.

Kotian further said a blue print of a full-fledged office for the Academy on the 50 cents land earmarked for the same at Urvastores, is ready and hoped that the project would soon be initiated.

On the issue of inclusion of Tulu in the eighth schedule of the constitution, Kotian said an appeal has been made in this direction to Union Minister Veerappa Moily and MP Nalin Kumar Kateel at the Tulu convention held in Delhi and hoped steps would soon be taken in this direction.

While recalling the co-operation extended to him by all the 13 member s of the Academy, Kotian said he was quitting the academy with a heavy heart. He also hoped that the new President of the Academy will live upto the expectations of Tuluvas.
