HPCL gas pipeline project impasse continues; villagers boycott meet

 Belthangady, Jan 30 2014:  The meeting held at the Belthangady TP office on January 29, Wednesday office  under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim to discuss the HPCL gas pipeline project compensation issue,  failed to arrive at any conclusion with the  farmers likely to be affected by the project  refusing to let their land for the project and even boycotting the meeting.

The  participant farmers were agitated when Deputy Commissioner said the meeting was convened to only discuss about the  compensation to the affected people and not to discuss  the project,  The farmers said they were not ready to  sacrifice their land  and paid no heed to the DC’s assurance that a  good compensation package will be offered.

The villagers warned that they will not allow the project to be implemented at any cost and walked out of the meeting. They even began a protest outside the TP office. Additional police forces were summoned to prevent any untoward incident and the DC left the venue soon after.

Puttur Assistant Commissioner Krishnamurthi, Srinivas, Tahsildar, Ashok, Land Acquisition Officer, Kanagal Murthi, Hassan District President of Hasiru Sene, Ravikiran Punacha, district unit President, GP President Abdul Gafur  and HPCL officials attended the meeting.

The GP Chief Abdul Gafur has also said that the GP would fight for the cause of the people  and added it is not proper to impose any project on anyone.
