Mangalore, June 22, 2013 : State Minister for Textiles, Ports and Inland Transport Baburao Chinchanasur has informed that the State Cabinet has agreed to allocate a sum of Rs 50 crores in the budget, to initiate temporary measures to check sea erosion along the coastal belt.
Speaking to presspersons in Mangalore on June 22, Saturday, the Minister said there is also a proposal to set up an international textile park at Yadgir which will be a Rs 10,000 crore project.
R Mohan, Director of Department of Port and Inland Transport, who was also present, informed regarding the ADB aided artificial reef project intended to find a permanent solution to the problem of sea erosion and said the tender has been awarded to RDS Project Ltd of Kochi.
He said the project is estimated to cost Rs 126 million and added a sum of Rs 48.54 million will be utilized towards the first phase works at Ullal and Kotepura.
On the proposed Maritime Board in Mangalore, the officials informed that the proposal has already been sent to the Centre by the state government and is pending approval.
