The government had earlier issued a final land acquisition notification in 18 villages and 8 villages in 2 phases, respectively. The latest notification published in the Gazette on September 9, 2010 and in newspapers on Nov 4, the government had issued notifications for land acquisition in Udupi district. The areas are Vadera Hobli, Hangalore, Koteshwar, Gopadi, Beejadi, Kumbhashi, Tekkatte, Manoor, Kotathattu, Giliyaru, Chitrapadi, Karkada, Perampalli, Moodahadu, Pandeshwar, and Gundmi.

The centre had proposed the widening of two stretches, making a total of 90kms, into 4 lanes under the third phase of the National Highways Development Project (NHDP) under build, operate, and transfer basis. The project, which is worth Rs. 674 crore, was bagged by the Navayuga – KPCL consortium. The NHAI in collaboration with the consortium has set up a special purpose vehicle called Navayuga Udupi Tollway Pvt. Ltd. for the project.

The union minister of road transport and highways and the state government have signed a deal for cooperation in implementing all the projects of the NHAI and the centre in the state. Earlier, the centre and the state were signing project specific agreements.

The new agreement, signed on April 19, permits the state government to cooperate with the NHAI in resolving land acquisition and utility shifting issues, said reliable sources.
