Belthangady, October 15, 2025: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Dharmasthala mass burial case is expected to soon record a fresh statement from Chinnayya, the key complainant and witness in the case.
Chinnayya, currently in judicial custody following his arrest for perjury, reportedly informed the Belthangady court that he had previously told the SIT about burying over 10 bodies.
Sources indicate that the SIT is now seeking to officially document this claim as part of its ongoing investigation.
In connection with the case, the SIT has already recorded the statements of Chinnayya’s wife, Mallika, and his sister, Ratna.
Officials believe Chinnayya’s earlier statements have been inconsistent and contradictory, prompting plans to take him back into custody for further questioning.
However, since court approval is required to proceed with recording a new statement from him, the SIT is expected to move the court for permission on Wednesday. A decision on the request is likely within the next few days.
