Udupi, July 11, 2025: Udupi police have arrested Kabir alias Kabir Hussain (46), a known member of the notorious Garuda Gang, following a preventive detention order issued under the Goonda Act.
The Udupi deputy commissioner and district magistrate invoked the Karnataka Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Drug Offenders, Gamblers, Goondas, etc. Act—commonly known as the Goonda Act—against Kabir, who hails from Kampa Kauroor village in Karkala. Following the order, he was taken into custody and lodged in the Central Prison in Mysuru.
Kabir has a long criminal history dating back to 2005 and is linked to 17 cases, including murder, attempted murder, robbery, extortion, theft, cattle theft, and assault on government officials. Of these, he has been convicted in two cases, acquitted in eight, reached compromise settlements in three, while two cases are under trial and two others remain under investigation.
His criminal activities span several police station limits across Udupi district—Karkala Town, Hiriyadka, Padubidri, Manipal, Shirva, and Kaup. He also faces cases in Sringeri and Koppa (Chikkamagaluru district), and in Venoor and Surathkal under Mangaluru city limits in Dakshina Kannada.
Kabir is identified as an active and long-standing member of the Garuda Gang, known for its involvement in organised criminal activities.
